Farm Kiln Experiments 2022
Over the years I have collected many kilns for free from Craigslist and people insisting I take their kilns. I made this small updraft wood fueled kiln with what I had available to me. I use pallets, scrap wood and collected dead fall from around the farm.
From my last several firings the top get plenty hot reaching cone 10 in 16 hours or so in heavy reduction. However the bottom takes quite some time to catch up. The last few times I’ve had to shut down before reaching cone 10 on the bottom shelf, it only reaches cone 6.
I use this kiln as more of a refire kiln to flux out any crunchy pots from past firings and give a little more texture to pieces that are a little bland.
